When our Windsurfing and Kitesurfing school in Cyprus started back in 2000 it was the first of it's kind in Cyprus and still is to this date the most visited. Our aim at Extreme Sports Cafe is to help anyone planning a kitesurfing, mountainboard or surfing activity in Cyprus by providing them with a rundown of these extreme sports main centers of activity and related services available Cyprus wide.

Although relatively unknown for these sports Cyprus has now gained an excellent reputation thanks to it's sunshine, steady winds, sandy beaches and ideal water temperatures. The friendliness and hospitality of the cypriot people is also legendary and makes Cyprus a lifelong favorite for those who visit. Extreme Sports Cafe uses only new Kitesurfing equipment and has IKO (International Kite Organisation) qualified kitesurf instructors in our school, as well as international level kitesurfing champions, thus ensuring the highest level of instruction in a safe environment.

We are a relatively small kite school specializing in quality kitesurfing tuition. We only use the latest, safest equipment and our instructors (3) which are all qualified and top sailors (some are sponsored) are limited to 2 students per course to optimize quality of tuition.

Our operating center and windsurf/kiteshop is situated in Limassol just 15mn away from the main kite beaches, but we can provide accommodation for our clients if they require it near the sea.

Towns & Villages - Kitesurfing Cyprus

There are six major towns Nicosia, the capital situated inland in the middle of the Mesaoria plain, and the 5 coastal towns of Limassol, Larnaka, Pafos, Kyrenia and Famagusta. The latter two, in the north and east respectively, have been under Turkish occupation since 1974. The towns of Cyprus present a modern cosmopolitan atmosphere blended with historic buildings and ancient monuments. Imposing colonial and classic style buildings rub shoulders with well-designed contemporary hotels, apartment blocks and attractive shopping streets, some narrow and quaint, others thoroughly modern. By contrast, life in the villages follows a slower pace, reflecting the importance of agriculture, cottage industry and family ties. Traditional flatroofed village houses made of mudbrick are a common sight, while stone-built dwellings with tiled roofs can be seen in the mountains. Weather, and the best dates for Kitesurfing on Cyprus.

Cyprus is a warm and sunny Mediterranean island offering tourists the chance to relax in the sun, swim in the sea and a whole lot more. Generally the weather in Cyprus is ideal from May to October. As with every country, Cyprus can never be guaranteed to provide perfect weather all of the time.

Our season usually starts in Feb and ends in October. During this period the sea breeze is very reliable and allows us to kitesurf almost every day. The winter months although windy, are unpredictable with either excellent conditions for advanced riders (waves) or long windless periods.

Booking Your Flight to Cyprus

Due to certain countries travel regulations we are unable to make Flight arrangements on your behalf. However the following gives you all the information you need in order to book suitable flights.

Destination: Paphos (20 mins away) or Larnaca (1hr away)

Origination: Nearly all main UK / major European airports operate flights to either destination; however dates vary throughout the season.

Airline: At lest eight different airlines fly to these destinations.

Price: Prices vary from £150 to £250 throughout the season. The earlier you book the cheaper the flights.

Airport Transfers: Plenty of taxis are available at all times at the airport. For contact details for all taxi companies please check with us.

Accommodation in Cyprus

The majority of popular kitesurfing and windsurfing beaches are situated halfway between the cities of Lemesos and Pafos themselves 50mn driving distance apart. By staying in either one you will never be more than 30mn drive from most kitesurfing spots. Pafos is the more quiet cultural capital of Cyprus whereas larger Lemesos and its harbor is one of the main buisness/shopping centers in Cyprus. Both have excellent restaurants and nightlife.
Pissouri village is also a very good option if you prefer proximity and don’t mind quiet evenings. Situated exactly half way between the two cities it is the closest to the kitesurfing beaches.

Car Hire in Cyprus

Extreme Sports Cafe strongly recommends that customers hire their own vehicles. Hiring your own car in Cyprus is a must if you are going to kitesurf independently. Taxis are expensive and public transport scarce in the cities and none existent on the kitesurfing spots. Car hire is relatively cheap in Cyprus and all vehicles are in good condition and less than 3 years old by law. Make sure you choose a company that will let you pick up and return the car at the airport, a taxi ride from the airport to the cities being more or less worth the equivalent of two days car hire. Kitesurfing Courses with Extreme Sports Cafe on Cyprus.

• All Kitesurfing equipment is provided for students.
• Kite sizes 8 to 14m average board size 135x35cm.
• Wetsuits: Unnecessary in the summer, 2mm shorty mid season, 4mm short sleeves in the winter.

Kitesurfing Equipment Rental
Extreme Sports Café’s partner Cyprus kitesurfing pro center offers a range of quality kite surfing rental equipment for those who CAN kitesurf.(independent and be able to stay upwind.)
The rental equipment is replaced and updated every year and they have the latest selection of kites and boards from ECLIPSE , SKYWALKER and F-ONE on offer.
Please note that for safety reasons all kitesurfers will be required to demonstrate safe kite handling skills, good judgment and be capable of staying upwind before rental is confirmed. Meet at the beach or they can pick you up from your place of residence.
• A day’s rental normally starts at 1.30pm when the wind starts blowing.
• All equipment rentals are at the users responsibility.

* Please note that due to the questionable credibility of kitesurfing certificates issued by various “kitesurfing organizations” and the extra cost involved for the students in order to obtain those so called certificates, the Cyprus Kitesurfing Pro Center has decided to no longer issue any certificates but their own, free of charge.

Important notes about kitesurfing in Cyprus

Booking and Payment Guidelines

In order to avoid disappointment we advise customers to book at least 8 weeks in advance. This does not mean we can not take late bookings, however in our experience rushed decisions can cause unnecessary problems. Before committing to any dates please contact us in order to check availability. Alternatively, when booking online you can give two other possible dates when you could attend the course. This potential problem will be avoided if you book at least 8 weeks in advance.

When you make the decision to book a course, a course deposit must be paid in order to secure your place. Having secured your place the remaining balance can then be paid when you get to Cyprus and visit our kitesurfing school for the first time.
